NATIONAL MEAT ASSOCIATION – BSE Policy
Adopted at the 55th Annual Convention, February 18-21, 2001
NMA strongly encourages and pledges for a coordinated nationwide meat industry policy to prevent the introduction of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) into the U.S. and to control the potential spread of BSE, should it ever be found in beef or dairy cattle in the United States or in North America.
NMA will work with government regulatory agencies and other industry associations, including USDA, FDA, National Milk Producers Federation, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, American Meat Institute, National Renderers Association, Livestock Marketing Association, Animal Health Institute, National Association of Chain Restaurants, National Restaurant Association, Food Marketing Institute, American Feed Industry Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, National Association of Federal Veterinarians, academia, and consumer groups to develop unified preventive interdictions to proactively carry out this policy.
