NMA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 1996-97 RECIPIENTS

OAKLAND, CA, October 3, 1996 -- The National Meat Association Scholarship Foundation released the names of the six students selected as recipients of scholarship grants for the 1996-97 academic school year.

NMA Scholarship Foundation President Ron Gustafson was pleased to announce that the winners selected this year are: Brian Bowker, a senior majoring in Animal and Food Sciences at Purdue University, as winner of the Frank DeBenedetti Scholarship Grant; David McKenna, a senior majoring in Animal Science at Iowa State University, as winner of a NMA Scholarship Grant; Laura K. Locke, a senior majoring in Animal Production/Teaching Specialization at Texas Tech University, as winner of a NMA Scholarship Grant; Matthew S. Pimentel, a senior majoring in Meat Science at California State University Fresno, as winner of a NMA Scholarship Grant; Zhongjing Lu, a senior majoring in Food Science at Louisiana State University, as winner of a NMA Scholarship Grant; and Rachel V. Orr, a senior majoring in Food Science at Clemson University, as winner of the Edward Toby Memorial Scholarship Grant.

The awards will be presented at NMA's Annual Meeting held during the association's MEATXPO'97 and 51st Annual Convention in San Diego, California, February 13-15, 1997.

The NMA Scholarship Foundation is administered by the Directors of the NMA Scholarship Foundation. These $1,500 and $1,000 merit-based awards are presented annually to students studying Animal/Meat/Food Science or related Agriculture Engineering and considering a career in the meat industry.
