NMA DELIVERS AWARDS AT MEATXPO'99
OAKLAND, CA -- Dr. Gary Smith was awarded National Meat Association's highly prestigious E. Floyd Forbes Award this year. The award was announced with several others at NMA's MEATXPO'99 and 53rd Annual Convention in Monterey, California, February 18-20, 1999. He received his honor with pride and humility, especially when he heard the congratulations sent by his mentor, Kenny Monfort.
NMA's Supplier of the Year was announced as Steve Schmidt of LeFiell Co., Reno, NV, for outstanding efforts to industry and members. NMA feels that it is incumbent to recognize those who give the industry outstanding service, and LeFiell has been providing the same high quality rail systems, equipment and service for more than fifty years. LeFiell was a charter member of NMA's parent association, Western States Meat Packers Association, in 1946.
NMA gave its Professional of the Year award to Business Consultant Henry Meyer for a lifetime of excellent service as NMA's chief financial advisor and business consultant. "Henry's selfless service and tireless dedication to professionalism should be a beacon for us all, a map we all should follow," said NMA Executive Director Rosemary Mucklow.
NMA is also proud to announce that Uncle Louie's Sausage Co. of Hawaii took home the 'Hold the Mustard' award at NMA's Annual Gourmet Sausagefest for a Sweet Onion Sausage. Farmer John (Clougherty Packing Co.) took home NMA's first ever New Product Award for its Carefree Cooking Pork.
